The IWC Portugieser Chronograph is a mainstay in the brand’s collection and has been since the 1990s. What We Think

And while IWC could easily rest on its laurels with this one, it is smart to infuse some color and excitement into this rather conservative chrono to remind watch lovers everywhere not just that its still here, but just how cool it is. And I think these new colors are extremely effective in that regard. First there is the Horizon colorway with a dial hue that presents as “cloudless” where the applied numerals and markers act as a light cloud cover by way of contrast. Add the 18k white gold case and you have a really unique proposition. The Obsidian is just a hot perfect super clone watches because it combines a black dial with a yellow gold case which – come on– just look at it.
I am particularly fond of the Dune variant because it feels timely with the recent release of Dune: Part Two, especially since composer Hans Zimmer is a known IWC wearer. I remember seeing him live in Geneva with IWC two years ago and hearing him play the Dune theme song with a full band. Seeing this new watch feels like a full circle moment and the sandy hues paired with the steel case just work so well.
